Souaré Mamadou Lamarana

29 – Labé

What Are You Most Passionate About?

I love doing research. I research things pertaining to the environment, in order to know which species of plants we can plant in this area to help resist climate change. I also research information on the nutritional health of women and young children.

Who Is Your Hero? Why?

Nelson Mandela. He worked very hard to bring about sustainable development in many nations. He led by example, through democracy and good governance.

What Is Your Favorite Sound?

I love the singing of the turtledove, which we call “léguétérè” in Pulaar.

What Project Would A Laptop Help You With?

I am a Community Development Agent for the Prefecture of Mali in charge of monitoring and evaluation, and supporting communities in making their gardens and fields secure. I also supply plants, seeds, and fencing materials.

How Would A Laptop Help You?

A computer will help me manage all of my data collection. It will allow me to deliver reports on time, and take advantage of many tools for developing and carrying out monitoring and evaluation activities. I used to have a computer that helped facilitate my work, but since it was old it stopped working completely.

What do you love about this project?

I appreciate the fact that we mobilize people to form cooperatives, and that we also help build their technical capacities. When people are in groups they can work much more efficiently, and use their newly acquired skills effectively.

What Languages do you speak?

I speak Pulaar, French, and I know a little bit of English, Sousou, and Malinké.

Given a choice, would you prefer a Mac or PC?

I prefer MacBooks, because they are very easy to transport and are user friendly.
