Since 1991, the Los Altos Community Foundation has served Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and the surrounding area. The Los Altos Community Foundation is the only non-profit organization solely focused on local community building through our programs, grants, and leadership in education, art, culture, historic preservation, community building, recreation, environmental causes, and philanthropy. Our programs have benefited residents of all ages and across cultures, income levels, and schools. The Foundation’s four primary activities include Grant Making, Program Incubation & Management, Philanthropic Fund Management, and Convening the Community. In a number of cases, LACF has stepped in and provided leadership and support for valuable community programs when nobody else would, thus saving them and allowing them to grow. Two examples include the Los Altos Conservatory Theater (now the Los Altos Stage Company) and the Music for Minors program.

How would a laptop help you?

DELAC parents usually do not have their own laptop. This will enable them to receive documents sent out by the district in a format that they can easily read. They are limited at this point to using their cell phones to read documents. They will have access to the district website, which provides a wealth of information to help them navigate the school district, access the district calendars, information about their own school and their students’ grades and attendance, and more.  They will be able to set up and use an email account for better communication both among DELAC members, with other parents, and especially with their children’s teachers..  They will be able to access instructional videos and other online learning tools for both themselves and their families. Communication and access to information will be the key activities for DELAC use.  As developing leaders, DELAC members need the technology tools taken for granted by other parents in the district.
