What Are You Most Passionate About?

Eradicating poverty from the grassroots level. I don’t have a simple solution, but I do have a very good sense of where the problem lies. For the rest of my life I will be dedicated to working on solutions.

Who Is Your Hero? Why?

Bunker Roy, the founder of Barefoot College. He has no assets and whatever he does have is used by the NGO. He takes the same pay as the rest of the staff, motivates people to give ideas and to work on them. He has been an inspiration to youngsters like me. His humility, unconditional love for the people, and a dozen other positive characteristics bring him as close to being my hero as possible.

What Is Your Favorite Sound?

The sound of water, be it in a waterfall, the sea or just the rain. It calms me down and makes me think about how beautiful nature is and motivates me to protect it.

What Project Would A Laptop Help You With?

The handicraft department at Barefoot College, Tilonia.

How would a laptop help you?

Recently our sales have been lagging, so we conducted market research in order to come up with a solution.  We came up with two! 1) To create an online store; 2) To build a design lab so as to create new designs to sell along with the traditional ones. To implement both of these solutions we need to equip our team with laptops.

What do you love about this project?

Refugees that settled here in Rajasthan, having no source of livelihood, started selling their painstakingly handcrafted items, some of which take as long as six months to craft.  Middle-men saw this opportunity and swooped in to skim profits from the artisans.  That is when Barefoot stepped in to provide proper profit sharing. I love that we not only provide fair wages to those who work hard but we are also saving a rare, traditional craft.
