What Project Would A Laptop Help You With?

Benares Beach Project

Short Description Of Project

Since 1997, a group of local youth have worked together to create a beach called “Benares” in the neighborhood called Bocarass, Gbessia Port II, Conakry. We began by clearing the area and planting coconut palms. Trash washes up on the beach frequently, sothe group congregates en masse every Sunday to clean the area.

In 2000, the group became formally organized under the title, Association des Jeunes Pour le Tourism et le Development, and acquired documentation from the government granting us temporary stewardship of the land. We raise money through concerts and parties at the beach, in order to buy tools, pay helpers, and construct a small kiosk for the sale of beverages. Benares is the only public beach, and actually the only relatively clean open space on the entire south side of the peninsula. Young people come in throngs to socialize, attend concerts, and play soccer and volleyball here.

How Would A Laptop Help You?

A laptop computer for administrative purposes will aid our efforts. The project involves entrepreneurial, environmental, legal, and social aspects, as our youth organization strives to create a public space that is clean and accessible, but that also may help us to make a living in a difficult economy (from the kiosk and concert tickets).
