47 – Allen, TX

What Are You Most Passionate About?

Encouraging others. I’d like everyone who meets me to feel like they’ve left with positive words and thoughts.

Who Is Your Hero? Why?

My daughter. She was my caregiver while I fought breast cancer twice. Though we had lost everything in Hurricane Katrina, she gave up her new life to be with me, without regrets.

What Is Your Favorite Sound?

Laughter, especially from children.

What Project Would A Laptop Help You With?

I’m starting JAH’s Heart, a nonprofit in honor of my daughter, that will help all of us show our caregivers our appreciation, and help them rejuvenate. My daughter Jeannee Aenise was 23 years old when I was first diagnosed. She had just been invited to LA to work on her music. I remember her on the phone one day, apologizing to someone to say she couldn’t fly out. Whatever God had in store for her, he would give at the right time, but now she needed to be with me. As her mother, that tore me apart because I feel sacrifices should be made by parents, not by one’s children.

Short Description Of Project

I ask hotels to provide B&B weekends, mani-pedicures, and I myself provide gift baskets & gift cards to caregivers who need to get some love themselves. I thought of this project after my daughter returned from a caregiving session–in tears. I realized both of us were afraid of the same things —death, instability, uncertainty—and both of us needed care to get through.

How Would A Laptop Help You?

It would help me build a spreadsheet of my collaborators; start sending a monthly newsletter to donors and caregivers; track caregivers’ birthdays and anniversaries to send them gifts, and more. (PS – I apologise for not putting up more photos. After chemo, my teeth were such a wreck that I was ashamed to smile.)
